THE OFFICIAL HOME OF DAVE BUTZ

This is Dave Butz.

Everything that you ever wanted to know is right here.
At least everything that he wants you to know.

Here is a timeline of Dave Butz's football career.

Dave Butz - The Early Years

Dave Butz was born on June 23, 1950 in Lafayette, Alabama and, at an early age, moved with his family to Illinois. A three-time All American in football at Maine South High School in Park Ridge, he also excelled at basketball by scoring over 1,500 points for the school. Butz also held the state high school discus record for 13 years.

Dave Butz' Life in the NFL's Fast Lane

The athletic defensive lineman was selected in the 1st round of the NFL draft by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1973, and was subsequently acquired by the Washington Redskins in 1975.

From that day until the end of the following decade, Dave Butz grew into a resilient and feared defensive force for the Redskins. He collected three Super Bowl rings and played in a third title game from 1982-1987, and retired from professional football in 1989 as one of the most revered players in the history of the franchise. In 2002, a blue-ribbon panel of judges selected Butz as one of the 70 Greatest Redskins of all time. Also voted to the 40 Greatest Redskins of all time.

At times, Butz seemed like a giant playing amongst ants. He stood an imposing 6' 6" with a playing weight of 315 pounds - large by even today's physical standards. His shoe size was 12.5, 7E and his Super Bowl rings checked in at an enormous size 17. The defensive lineman's helmet size was 7-7/8 or, as Butz once put it, "I can wear anything that will fit over the open end of a bucket."

Dave Butz's legacy with the Redskins - and his durability - resonate right up to the present day: Butz finished with a total of 203 games as a Redskin and the second-highest sack total in team history (62.5)." While playing in every preseason game (not counted) he still played 197 games straight as a Redskin.
